🔐 Trézor.io/start® | Starting Up Your Device
Welcome to your official guide to setting up your Trezor® hardware wallet. This step-by-step walkthrough will help you go from unboxing your device to safely storing and managing your crypto assets using Trezor Suite. Whether you're using a Trezor Model One or Model T, this guide is designed to make your onboarding secure and seamless.
📦 Step 1: Unbox Your Trezor
Ensure the box is factory sealed and hasn’t been tampered with. Inside, you’ll find:
- Your Trezor device
- USB cable
- Recovery seed cards
- Instructions and stickers
📝 Note: If the packaging looks tampered with, do not use the device. Contact Trezor support immediately.
This is the only official link to begin your device setup. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Connect your Trezor device to your computer
- Install Trezor Bridge or use Trezor Suite (Desktop or Web)
- Wait for the browser or Suite to recognize your device
⚙️ Step 3: Install Firmware
If your device is brand new, it won’t come with firmware pre-installed (a security measure). Follow the prompt in Trezor Suite to:
- Download and install the latest official firmware
- Verify the firmware fingerprint shown on your computer matches what’s on the device
🔐 Step 4: Create a New Wallet
- After firmware installation, choose “Create New Wallet”
- Follow the on-screen instructions on both your computer and Trezor device
📝 Step 5: Write Down Your Recovery Seed
Your recovery seed (also known as a seed phrase or mnemonic phrase) is the most important backup you have. It’s a list of 12, 18, or 24 words.
- Write down every word in exact order
- Use the provided recovery cards
- NEVER take a photo or store it digitally
- Confirm the words as prompted on the Trezor screen
⚠️ Warning: If you lose your recovery phrase, you lose access to your wallet forever. There is no “forgot password” option in crypto.
🛡️ Step 6: Set Up a PIN
A PIN is your first line of defense against unauthorized access.
- Choose a PIN from 4–9 digits
- Enter it using a randomized grid shown on your Trezor screen
- Never write your PIN on the device or near it
💰 Step 7: Add Coins and Tokens
Using Trezor Suite, you can now:
- Add popular coins like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and many more
- Use the “+ Add Account” button to track balances
- Switch between mainnet, testnet, and legacy accounts
📨 Step 8: Receiving Crypto
- Click on a wallet/account in Trezor Suite
- Click “Receive”
- Verify the address on your Trezor device
- Copy and share the address safely
📤 Step 9: Sending Crypto
- Select the wallet/account you want to send from
- Click “Send”
- Enter recipient address, amount, and fees
- Verify details on your Trezor and approve the transaction
🔁 Optional: Restore Existing Wallet
If you already have a seed phrase from a previous wallet:
- Choose “Recover Wallet” instead of creating a new one
- Enter your recovery phrase using the device
- Double-check your coin balances and reinstall apps
📲 Mobile Compatibility
While Trezor doesn't currently support native mobile apps like Ledger does, you can use WebUSB with some Android browsers or connect to third-party wallets such as:
- Metamask (via Trezor Connect)
- Exodus Wallet
- Electrum (for advanced users)
🧠 Best Practices
- Use strong, unique passwords with password managers
- Store your seed phrase in a fireproof, waterproof safe
- Consider a steel backup device like Cryptosteel
- Enable passphrase encryption for extra protection
🔒 Security Reminders
- Trezor will never ask you for your recovery phrase
- Only install firmware from trezor.io
- Never share your screen during a support session
- Verify all URLs and download sources
